Mountain View Adventist College Receives Recognition from ACARA

Apr 09, 2017

Mountain View Adventist College received recognition from ACARA for significant improvement in educational outcomes this year, which show that students from the school have made above average gains in literacy and numeracy.

Jherome, now in Year 10, is a great example of the students in his year level who have made well above-expected academic progress from Year 7 to Year 9 according to their NAPLAN results and improved academic performance at school.

Jherome started at MVAC in Year 7 after attending another primary school. He left most of his friends behind and found the transition to high school confronting at first. A strong parent-school partnership led to a rapid increase in academic performance and ability.

Jherome Martinez quotes:

"I was excited when I found out I’d done well. It’s important to me — I take it seriously. I can see that I’m improving."

Quotes from Mrs Jenny Gibbons, Principal of Mountain View Adventist College

"We have experienced incredible growth in our students’ reading, spelling, grammar and numeracy since the students were last tested. I put it down to our staff having done some pretty amazing things over the past three years."

Quotes from Ms Paula Musa, Head of Junior School (K-Year 4)

"We've changed our way of teaching and it is not only through NAPLAN but our own data that we’ve seen growth in our students. It's nice to see such inspiring results. We prefer to work with students in the classroom rather than taking them out. The learning support teacher or teacher aide comes into the classroom to help."

Quote from Mr Fabian Carrasco, Head of Middle School (Years 5-8)

"The Middle School years benefit from the learning they received during the foundational Primary years. This has resulted in significant improvements in our Middle School students."

"We found that the students who were below average in the Year 7 NAPLAN results are now catching up to their more capable peers. The 2016 results show a dramatic improvement. If kids feel safe and happy, they want to learn."
