Road to Bethlehem 2017
December 3 & 4 2017 saw Mountain View Adventist College host their second Road to Bethlehem event – and the turnout did not disappoint! Road to Bethlehem is an opportunity for guests to step back in time and experience what it may have been like at the very first Christmas.
During the program, guests journeyed through an interactive tour of some of the key scenes surrounding the birth of Jesus. As they wandered through the streets of Jerusalem, they met Roman soldiers, shepherds and Wise Men, visited King Herod’s palace – all before coming to Bethlehem itself and finally meeting the newborn King in the manger. The event is run each year so that we can share the story of the birth of our Saviour, Jesus Christ. It is designed as an event that the whole family can enjoy.
Due to the popularity in 2016, the College increased the number of tours for 2017 and ran tours every 10 minutes compared to every 20 minutes in 2016. We were pleased to see that our guest numbers had increased from approximately 1,200 in 2016 to 1,512 this year – an increase of 26%. 33 tours were completed, up by 57% on 2016 which saw 21 tours completed.
One of our concerns was the impending rain on Monday afternoon. At 4pm, the heavens opened and rain was pouring down. The College fielded a number of phone calls from guest enquiring if the event was still going ahead and we advised them that it was. At 5:15pm, God decided that He wanted the event to continue and that we had enough rain – the rain stopped. The event continued with good numbers still in attendance. When the staff had arrived at home that evening, climbing into bed at 11:30pm, the rain started again. This is the power of God working in our College and our world today. God is good!
We would like to extend a big thank you to those who helped bring this event to life and those who attended. We would love to see you all at Road to Bethlehem in 2018.
