Mountain View Adventist College Receives
NAPLAN Recognition Two Years Running!
For a third year in a row, Mountain View Adventist College has achieved substantially above-average gains in both reading and numeracy according to the Australian Curriculum, Assessment and Reporting Authority (ACARA). Gains are measured against the national average, against schools with similar students and against students with similar starting scores. The school again achieved above average gains across years 5, 7 and 9 across all domains.
Principal at Mountain View Adventist College, Julia Heise credits above average growth in student learning to a focus on explicit instruction in literacy and numeracy, to the dedication of the teachers and the unwavering commitment to the development of the whole child, practiced at the school.
“As educators, we need to prepare students for the 21st century. That requires a commitment to both the basics – reading, writing and mathematics as well as the four C’s – collaboration, communication, creativity and critical thinking” Ms Heise noted.
Jade Champness transferred to Mountain View Adventists College in Year 4, after struggling with learning difficulties in her early primary years. Her Year 9 NAPLAN results show that she had achieved growth in her results at a rate that is twice what would normally be expected, giving her a robust foundation for her senior years. Now thriving in Year 11 and getting ready to tackle the HSC, she has become a strong, self-motivated learner.
“Above average growth for our students requires the children to believe in themselves. As part of the Adventist Education philosophy we believe that each child is special. We provide an environment where Christian values are upheld, and young minds can grow and flourish” says the Executive Director of Education Dr Jean Carter.
