'Camping In' for a Cause
Kindy teachers, students and parents took camping to another level during COVID-19, joining thousands of other Australian families on 4 July 2020 for the first ever 'Camp Quality Camp In' to raise funds to support children with cancer.
Keen to make a difference in the lives of others, Mrs Hidalgo, senior Kindy teacher, organised Kindy students to support children with cancer by raising funds for Camp Quality, an organisation that runs camps for children 0-13 who are dealing with their own or a family members diagnosis.
Prior to the camping in night, Camp Quality puppeteers visited the Prep to Year 2 students to teach them about cancer. Students were introduced to a puppet called Kylie who unfortunately had cancer. As Kylie shared her story, students proposed ways to help Kylie as she returned to school after chemotherapy.
Kindergarten researched various blanket forts and trialled recipes in preparation for their 'Camp Quality Camp In' night. On the night, homes and backyards of many of the Junior school families became makeshift camping grounds.
Students have raised over $900 so far and would like to thank everyone that has supported them in this worthwhile cause. As they say at Camp Quality "laughter is the best medicine", and our students proved that this is true as they enjoyed their camping to spread those smiles for kids with cancer.
